Scope :

KDL was contracted to project manage a Taiwan based display system supplier to ensure on time delivery of the in train entertainment system to the UK in a quality manner. The supply included more than 3,300 units of seat back LCD display units, the interfacing hardware system and their associated software systems resided in more than 100 servers. The system was installed in the entertainment car of the First Great Western High Speed Trains with touch screen and plug-in earphone features.

KDL managed the whole project lifecycle for the display system including conceptual design, preliminary design and critical design and their reviews as well as the factory acceptance testing and on site installation testing processes. The quality assurance system (ISO-9000 based) of the supplier was reviewed and regularly checked to ensure the quality of the deliverables are maintained. The KDL project team made monthly visits to the factory of the supplier located in Taiwan to monitor and review the processes being adopted with referencing to the established Project Plan.

Due to the nature of this project involving more than 55 trains over a relatively long period of system installation and testing, KDL also provides support to the Client in devising the best implementation approach with the suitable technologies to minimize project risks while allowing future upgrade and expansions.
